Sie ist auch einer der größten Energieverbraucher. Daher haben alle Einsparungen in Druckluftsystemen einen erheblichen Einfluss auf Kosten und Umwelt. Ein erheblicher Anteil der elektrischen Energie wird in Kompressionswärme umgewandelt. Ohne Energierückgewinnung geht diese Wärme über das Kühlsystem und als Strahlung in die Atmosphäre verloren. Aus dem Druckluftsystem zurückgewonnenes heißes Wasser kann für sanitäre Anlagen und zur Heizung verwendet werden – und ist besonders gut für Prozessanwendungen geeignet. Durch Verwendung des heißen Wassers zur Zufuhr in den Heizkessel oder direkt in den Prozess können mit 70-90 Grad heißem Wasser kostspielige Energieträger wie Erdgas und Heizöl eingespart werden. Dampf wird z. B. für das Pasteurisieren, Erhitzen, Reinigen und Sterilisieren von Gefäßen, Trocknen von Produkten usw. verwendet. In größeren Molkereien werden für kontinuierliche Prozesse enorme Mengen an heißem Wasser und Dampf benötigt. Hier kann das Wärmerückgewinnungssystem des Kompressors zu erheblichen Energieeinsparungen führen. Das von den Wärmerückgewinnungssystemen von Kompressoren erzeugte Heißwasser kann direkt für diesen Prozess verwendet werden.Dampf wird auch für das Thermofixieren von Garn und Fasern aus synthetischem Material verwendet, um Formstabilität, ein größeres Volumen sowie eine erhöhte Knitter- und Temperaturbeständigkeit zu erreichen. Da hierzu kontinuierlich Dampf benötigt wird, muss ständig Wasser zugeführt werden. Das heiße Wasser aus dem Druckluftkompressor kann verwendet werden, um das zugeführte Wasser vorzuwärmen und so den Energieverbrauch des Dampferzeugers zu senken.
